christianity

My wife and I are Christians. What does that mean? Well, I could go on for a long time about that, but let me give the general definition: A Christian is one who believes that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior and through the gift of faith, they know that their sins are forgiven and that they will spend eternity in Heaven with God. From there, things can go in an infinite number of directions. By the way, we are Lutherans (LCMS to be specific).
Here is what it does not mean to be a Christian: we are not perfect – in fact, quite the opposite. If we were perfect, we would not need a savior. We do not think we are better than others – we might feel we are better off in the long run due to our belief that we will spend eternity in Heaven with God. By the way, Christians do believe that Heaven is perfect (that statement is not future tense, it is present tense). And, if you think the world is a great place today, I encourage you to pick up a newspaper and watch the evening news. There are a ton of bad things happening in this world by a bunch of (how should I say) not very good people. Christians count themselves in that group of not very good people – and we know we will be that way until our physical life on earth ends and we enter Heaven.
On this blog site, I will not try to “save” you – if you know your bible, you will know that I cannot save you – that is the work of the Holy Spirit. I will not try to convince you that you have to become a Christian (again, read your bible – even Christ couldn’t convince many he spoke to into becoming a Christian – and Christ is God). I will not put you down or treat you differently if you are not a Christian. I will not argue with you – nor will I engage in any form of argument. I will discuss differing points of views.
What you will see throughout the posts over time is that I will bring up some topics related to Christianity. I will weave in questions about Christianity. I will give my viewpoints on Christianity. And as a boring Lutheran, I will discuss some theology. I may even explain a little about what I believe and why. Hopefully I can dispell some common myths about Christianity. But don’t worry – no sales job here.
And by the way, there are a lot of great things that do happen on Earth today and each one of them is a blessing and gift from God.
